Slip Slidin' Away

Up next...another graceful story starring me, with supporting roles by my brother-in-law, my sister, and my niece. Let me just set the scene if I may...

Picture it. An evening in late summer...a family birthday celebration about to commence...and all four of the above characters trying to make it to the patriarch's house and running late!

My niece (Jordan - 5 yrs old and as cute as EV-AR! See photo at left for proof) was being ornery so my sister (Ashley) reprimanded her. Well, unfortunately, Jordan is as sensitive (she gets this from my sister) as she is ornery (she gets this from me), SO...the tears came. My sister was flustered, my bro-in-law (Chris) was trying to comfort my niece, and I decided to drive on my own instead of ride with them! Let me give you some backstory and details...1. Chris had mowed the grass earlier that day 2. the foyer is very dark when the lights aren't on. That being said...on their way out the door, Ash tripped on Chris's shoes...1. he left them there so as to not track grass in the house 2. she didn't see them in the dark. Well, she fell face first into the back of the front door. Ok, normally that would be funny because she wasn't hurt or anything...BUT she's pregnant (YAY!!) so the potential for harm was extremely heightened. Chris started laughing which started Jordan laughing which set Ashley off! She spouted off something about what if she hadn't caught herself against the door and had fallen on the baby...then I didn't hear the rest because they were out the door. By the time I got out the door Ashley was in the car and Chris had just finished putting Jordan in her carseat. Well, I noticed it was raining so instead of going down the steps immediately in front of me I decided to walk down the front porch to a set of steps closer to the carport...and I fell. Flat on my ass. Well, more like flat on my back. My feet just slipped right out from under me and I had no where to go but down. They actually didn't see any of this happen because while I was quietly busting my ass, Chris (who has the undeniable gift of making people laugh - hysterically) was pretending to fall as he walked to get into car, trying to put Ashley in a better mood and to help her see the humor in the situation. Well when they looked up and saw me turning around to walk back in the house with my whole backside soaking wet, they definitely found some humor. Although, my spill actually hurt very badly. It was a stinging hurt. Since neither my sister or my bro-in-law could get it together enough to come in and check on me, they sent Jordan in. She was so sweet, telling me about a similar situation when she fell a couple of days before and hurt her knee. My sister did come in and check on me once she gained composure! I changed clothes and we finally made it to my parents house. But my ass was black and blue for days!
